“A trio of advocacy groups on Thursday launched the world’s first climate lawsuit against a commercial bank, alleging that the Paris-based firm BNP Paribas is violating its legal obligations by continuing to finance planet-wrecking oil and gas development on a massive scale.

BNP Paribas, Europe’s largest funder of fossil fuel expansion projects, “continues to write new blank checks to the largest fossil fuel companies without setting any conditions for an oil-free, gas-free ecological transition,” said Alexandre Poidatz, an advocacy officer at Oxfam France, which joined Friends of the Earth France and Notre Affaire à Tous in filing the unprecedented lawsuit.

“With this lawsuit,” Poidatz continued, “we would like to reiterate that our organizations are firmly resolved to see the judge reach a verdict that forces the bank to honor its promises.”

    I wonder if the TYT crew uses motorized transportation with fossil fuels? Unless they use electric vehicles powered by solar then they do.

    Wow. This sounds like a really good and well thought out legal argument. Of crse I won't even ask if we have any law resembling that here in America.

    Bc even if we did, the Supreme Court in this country would never take up the case. 🤮

    Hey, fun fact: there IS a way to get fossil fuel companies to comply with environmental regulations, and it involves zero government intervention! Ask me for details.

    I have been on Aspiration for the past 4 years and signed up through TYT. I do the large majority of my banking through that. I would do all of it exclusively if I had a way to do direct cash deposits but I don’t so I also have a Bank of America account so I can do cash deposits when needed. I chose them because I had plans to be a drifter of sorts and move around, wanted a bank that was around nationwide for that. But those plans have changed recently so I dunno, maybe I’ll shift over to a local credit union or something.

    France also had a bloody revolution where they literally wanted to tear the monarchs apart once the people got fed up, there's a rich history of revolt against oppressive governments in Europe. So its no surprise the culture has written this into law, but nevermind. AMERICAN FREEDOM!!!

    What’s the transition program to renewables?
    How will this be achieved?
    When will it be ready.

    What is required?
    Number of wind turbines?
    Number of solar panels?
    Number of hydro dams?
    Number of whatever?
    Where?
    When?

    Remember that this must be done worldwide. Also remember that overall energy consumption in 2050 is thought to be 50% more than 2020.

    What to do when no wind?
    What to do when too windy?
    What to do when no sun?

    If batteries are the answer –
    What capacity?
    How many?
    Where?
    When?

    If pumped hydro is the answer –
    What capacity?
    How many?
    Where?
    When?

    Also to be considered –
    Renewables are just 10% of all energy.
    (Been that way for years.)
    Hydro = 7%.
    Solar = 1%.
    Wind = 1%.
    Others = 1%.
    Nuclear = 5%.
    Fossil fuels = 85%.

    I really do want to hear your program and schedule.

    Yeah, if corporations are people, they ought to have social responsibility. People get fined for littering, so should they

  • @RmeBraTT

    Giving funding to a company does not in any way make the giver liable or responsible for any environmental damage 'that' company may cause. Funding is a means to help a company 'LEGALLY' OPERATE, EXPLORE, EXTRACT, PRODUCE, etcetera.
    When 'the company' causes an environmental problem, the EPA determines whether or not laws were, in fact, even broken, and whether or not 'that' company will be fined.
    While all of 'this' is going on, no Finance company or Bank is held responsible, nor should it be, according to 'current' LAW.
    PERIOD.

    Not a chance of winning in court. We physically can't replace all the fossil fuels we use over night so the options are to guarantee the death of millions through energy poverty or to possibly at some point in the future be not directly responsible for negative effects that can't still be definitely proven at this point. This is getting to be absolutely ridiculous 🙄

  • @CurtisSmale

    Guaranteed to lose. There is no evidence that Climate Change is definitely man made. While I am 95% certain (or more) that it is human caused, we have yet to actually prove it conclusively. Benefit of the doubt will win this obvious "SLAPP" suit.

    2 men were killed after de eloping ways to get off of fossil fuels. They were killed and their work mysteriously disappeared. One man developed one that ran off water. The other man developed a way to get hundreds of miles to the gallon. These men were murdered for finding ways to help reduce fossil fuel usage and everyone knows the big ass corporation for fuel could not let anyone come up with ways to save people alot of money while helping save the planet. That would mean their billions would be reduced. Big corporations have too much control.
