With a whopping $500 million food budget, catering chefs for Singapore Airlines pump out 19 million in-flight meals a year. But cooking food for 30,000 feet is anything but easy. Airplane meals, like us, can’t miss their flights. So chefs move with military clockwork to stay within flight schedules and food safety requirements. Then there’s the added issue that food can taste differently in the sky because of pressure, engine noise, and dryness on the plane. It’s a phenomenon airlines and manufacturers have been working for decades to fix. Food and beverage director Antony McNeil develops meals that can regenerate well in small aircraft ovens while still tasting good.

We visit the carrier’s largest catering facility inside Changi Airport to see how all this food makes it onto planes before takeoff.

Amazing how these meals are prepared in a factory-like setting and are still so delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed my vegetarian dinner and breakfast from LAX to SIN. Hats off to you Singapore!

And then there is Indigo, who gives cute bags to passengers in the name of food. Indigo is a bus service disguised as an airline. 😛

The Flight Attendant is dressed beautifully. The food in Business Class looks very nice, and it's impressive how they prepare the meals. But Business Insider has chosen to film the passenger who is dressed poorly. Always dress to compliment your hosts in business and social circles. It's still considered an insult if you don't an many will lose respect for you. It's just the way it is.

YES! watching how I blasted all over the "place" in less than a month was shocking, I used what I talked about the other day, and although it actually took about 5 weeks for my volume to double, I just go'ogled Jan Venstaker's Shooting Ropes and her reaction has been priceless!

The tracking labels are such a cool thing and make a lot of sense to narrow in on what food was contaminated and understanding it's journey from the kitchen to the customer. Just really insightful video and props to these people on doing it all

2:56 interesting narration… narrator says 'workers' but the subtitles say 'chefs'… workers could imply 'cooks' not 'chefs' thus devaluing the profession… maybe they are all chefs, maybe they're not, not sure, but the switch up here is interesting

I worked at SATS ICC-1 for 6 months as intern. I worked 12 hours plus every day, I had to beg my manager for having a day off, the other person had to cover my shifts when I took a day off that means he had to work continuously 36 hours without going back to his room and I had done the same for that person worked continue for 36 hours with no meal allowances no sleeping place, just lay down on a cardboard box on the floor where people continue walking beside you. The manager was yelling whenever you asked him a day off or some flexibility in working hours when you not feeling well. I was hired as an intern during that time I was on a student visa in Singapore and I was doing my on job training where the manager threatened every single time to get me deported back to my country. For those who enjoy that delicious meal and you feel so great about spending that much money on airline tickets just let you know how the workers being treated there just for few hundred dollars every month. Peace.

What instantly attached me to this is the levels of hygiene they prepare the food with. As a consumer I would love my food cooked with that much hygiene. They look like a scientist carrying out an experiment when cooking the food . It's truly amazing what a human can possibly do. Such an intricate process.
