Origin Finance this week achieved carbon neutral certification, making the business the UK’s first carbon neutral finance company.

The certification from Make It Wild, is another important step to Origin’s overriding plans to help support the UK’s future generations.

According to data from the Office For National Statistics, the UK business sector generated 65.9 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions in 2018.- accounting for 18% of the entire UK’s carbon dioxide emissions.

This year, the UK Government announced that it is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 100% compared to the level which was seen in 1990.

“At Origin Finance we are committed to doing everything we can to support future generations of business owners- and a large part of that is to ensure that the environment is protected” said Chris Martin, founder of the Northampton based finance company.

The carbon mitigation and certificate were provided to the company by Make It Wild, an organisation based in North Yorkshire. They focus on actively reducing the UK’s carbon footprint, through planting trees. They have planted 25,000 trees so far, and will be planting thousands more during winter 2019/20.

Helen Neave, Founder and Director of Make It Wild said “We believe the planet is facing an environmental crisis, both through climate change and loss of biodiversity. The reason we love trees so much is that they can help with both! They capture carbon dioxide, which is vital to address climate change, and they also produce the very oxygen we breathe. But more than that, trees provide habitat for countless fungi, insects, birds and mammals, thereby supporting biodiversity.”
