This month we’re looking at how practices are moving or have moved to become carbon neutral. These are their stories about the steps they have taken and the tips they have for other architectural practices who wish to join them. This story is from Rob Kennon Architects in Melbourne:
“Committing to carbon reduction has an obvious personal benefit of knowing that you are taking steps to reduce your impact on the earth. Beyond this we have found that the process has resulted in increased staff engagement, relationships with new suppliers and consultants, and alignment with client visions.
Increasingly we have clients approach their projects from the perspective of energy efficiency and reduced carbon footprint. Our commitment to increasing staff technical knowledge means that we can offer expertise in relation to these projects and ultimately create better buildings.
This is the biggest impact that we can have on reducing carbon emissions. We are in the process of developing an office sustainable design manual to be implemented on all new projects and are committed to ongoing staff training in sustainable design and net zero buildings.”
