I appreciate Dr. Westman's contribution to our understanding of diet and nutrition and I enjoyed hearing from Dr. Aronica, but what does the first half of the title (as of writing this comment: "Why I Quit Veganism: Shocking Health Consequences with Lucia Aronica") have to do what with was spoken about in the video?

One of the greatest gifts, in my opinion, of Dr Westman beyond the obvious which is his teaching talent coupled with his research and clinical practice (my most trusted source on Keto/low carb) is secondarily, his continued teaching by example on communication skills maintaining his integrity personally and professionally in humility. I learn continually and am grateful +++ Thank you Dr Westman!

I remember this lady discussing her research some time ago. everyone should eat the way that makes them feel the best. Being in ketosis means eating very low calories or eating too low protein (for me). I now choose to eat a healthy omnivore diet, no grains, mostly animals and seafood, dairy and vegetables and eggs. Very high protein. There is so much noise out there, and food cults claiming their diet is the only way – but we know as individuals our body responds differently and our deficiencies depend on our requirements and how we uniquely respond to food and what phase of life we are in. I also am a failed vegan, I did not get adequate iron from a plant diet when menstruating – and also, I don't do well on a high grain diet (I found out the hard way) and on vegan I got fat, bloated and anemic but never felt satiated or strong. I respect all choices and I respect this channel. Keto did a lovely job helping me shed my 20 kilo vegan fat about 10 years ago, from too many grain calories, as it helped me to not be hungry. As I am older now, I need to eat animals for their protein (and tofu), and to keep the calories low I eat mostly vegetables as my plants, avoiding nuts and grains. I've never felt better. The protein I eat means a keto diet is out for me. Best of luck to you all in your choices. A low protein high fat keto diet is useful but for me not necessary for life. A vegan diet is just not necessary for good health in fact many women and young teens I know who 'go vegan' immediately get anemic within six months. My niece had to be taken to hospital she collapsed at home from her 'vegan' diet – but having said that anyone can be deficient in something. If you feel great you are probably eating the right diet for you and enough calories and micronutrients.

You can do keto and vegan – I've practiced a well-formulated vegan ketogenic diet for bipolar for 2 years with the help of the renowned ketogenic nutritionist Denise Potter. Dr. Stephen Phinney of Virta Health and Dr. Dominic D'Agostino of Keto Nutrition have great articles about this topic. Please check out the podcast I co-host with omnivore Michael Belanger: "Our Healing Journey with Metabolic Psychiatry" with brilliant guests such as Dr. Georgia Ede and Dr. Dominic D'Agostino.

It is aggravating that most of the studies that " disprove" the effectiveness of keto, base that outcome on old ,established, but, outdated and debunked values. So, they will say that such and such is well established , by " the preponderance o f evidence", knowing that the evidence is not based on solid science ,but on eminence based , I am the expert, don't you dare to question me, hypothesis!

Is epigenetics a paradigm or episteme w a built in bias? Does it mean this science will always find the environment the strongest factor vs genes? Weird. How do they sort out so many variables? Is it a legitimate science, or is there controversy regarding its legitimacy? I would think it would be rejected by many in the community.

I wish you could talk about doing low carb with irritable bowel syndrome. When I can't eat bacon because it irritates my colon. Things like that. So low carb for such people is different. I can't eat cheese, I can't eat nuts because it irritates my colon. So my low carb is really with limited menu.

I wonder what you think about Tim Spector and his rule about eating 30 different plants a week. I hate I believed that stupidity. I think 30 plants a week do more harm than 3 plants a week. If you are allergic or you have food sensitivities. It's actually the worst idea. 😢

This is a fantastic interview . Thank you.

I did however not explicitly get the link with quitting veganism as the title suggests .

In fact, it seems most of the value has been attributed to a low carb diet , which i guess is totally possible on a vegan diet too ?

Saying this as a primary carnivore , not all even in defence of veganism . Just trying to understand the argument and link with veganism , not having read the paper.

its very interesting all this kind of research truing to understand how our biology works. BUT DONT GET CONFUSED. Sciense is made to help people so, first and foresmost researchers have to observe real people and how the react and heal. SCIENCE is not to MAKE people "follow " the science advise. is cpmpletely THE OTHER WAR AROUND.

Hi Dr. Westman, Lucia, and everyone in this chat room. I am a woman that is 60 years young. Fourth day back on my low-carb, losing weight and feeling healthier already. I’m looking forward to my future and my way of life that I will stick to because I have mind power and I will be healthier, mind, body and soul.

I just had the most delicious salad, greens, blue cheese, Chicken breast slices, a little bit of Caesar dressing, two big bowls of organic greens, one large onion, and one , avocado, some hot sauce, it was absolutely delicious.

For dessert because I still love sugar I had four pieces of sugar-free extra gum that I’m having right now and some caffeine free diet cola., and somewater . I love you all. ❤️🩷💚🩵

I keep asking this question but none of the doctors i ask respond at all. Do you know about the study that is on Netflix? Four sets of twins with one on a plant based diet the other meat. Many test done during the time they they study them. The show also talks about the discussing way beef – chicken -and pork is raised. There is to much to type on here but I am so confused about eating meat even the eggs. Thanks

In response to vegan lady accusing meat industry of colluding with MDs….Like Kelloggs, Mills and the 7th day Adventist church paid the USDA and grain industry to promote Cereals, muffins and pop tarts?

I've been vegan for 22 years without any issues! I am 52, I look ten years younger. I exercise every day (lifting weights there times a week, running twice a weeks, biking every day). I don't have any problem. So what in hell are you talking about? It seems like meet industry paid a few MD`s to discredit plant based diet and promote their toxic products.
