Climeworks, a Swiss climate tech company, recently launched Mammoth, the world’s largest facility dedicated to removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through a process known as direct air capture (DAC). Located in Hellisheiði, Iceland, Mammoth can capture approximately 36,000 tons of Carbon Dioxide annually once fully operational.

Climeworks partners with Carbfix to prevent the captured Carbon Dioxide from escaping back into the atmosphere by storing it in Iceland’s basalt rock formations. They mix the carbon dioxide with water and then pump that slurry deep underground, eventually solidifying the carbon dioxide into rocks.
